What children build
The main model is Mewtwo's lab tank. A front dial triggers the breakout action, and the set includes a highly posable Mewtwo plus a Master Ball. LEGO lists the Mewtwo figure at more than 7.5 inches tall.
SMART Play requirement
Mewtwo includes one SMART Tag, but the set does not include a SMART Brick. Electronic reactions therefore require hardware from an All-in-One set such as Training House with Pikachu 72164 or Charizard vs. Jolteon 72167.
Screen and app use
The physical build and SMART Play interaction are designed around hands-on play rather than a child-facing screen. The optional SMART Assist app is used by adults for support and Brick updates. We do not classify this as a generative AI toy.
Best fit
72163 makes the most sense for a Mewtwo fan age 10+ who either already owns a SMART Brick or values the large figure and lab scene as a standalone build. Buyers starting the SMART Play ecosystem from zero should account for the cost of an All-in-One set.

Verdict
